What happens on exam day and when you get the result

Verified: 2026-10-26

Before the start

  • Arrive 30 minutes before the start; in 2026 every session begins at 14:00.
  • Bring an identity document: passport or residence permit card. Without it you are not admitted.
  • Phones, dictionaries and any notes are not used during the exam. Questions and answers are in Lithuanian only.

The test itself

  • The exam is electronic: you answer on a computer in a classroom of the school.
  • 20 questions, each with three options A, B, C, one correct. They cover every chapter of the Constitution: the state, human rights, the Seimas, the President, the Government, the courts, local government, the budget, amending the Constitution.
  • You pass with 14 correct answers. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so answer every question.
  • Under the 2022 NŠA instruction the test took 45 minutes (14:00 to 14:45). The current 2026 memo does not state the duration separately.

Reported: some websites say the result appears on the screen right after the test. The official NŠA memo says nothing about this; it only gives the 15 working days and the phone call to the school.

Result and certificate

  1. You get the result by calling the base school where you took the exam. Deadline: no later than 15 working days from the exam date.
  2. The certificate is issued by NŠA and handed out by the school. According to the English version of the memo, the school hands it out within three working days of receiving it.
  3. The certificate is attached to your MIGRIS application for permanent residence or citizenship. The NŠA memo gives no expiry date for it.

Tips for the day

  • Read the question to the end: in Lithuanian the key word often comes last (“…negali”, “…ne mažiau kaip”).
  • Eliminate the clearly wrong option first, then choose between two.
  • Numbers are the most common slip: 3/5 vs 2/3, 15 vs 30 days, 21 vs 40 years. Re-read the Numbers table on the morning of the exam.
  • Never leave a question blank: there is no penalty for a wrong answer.
  • Arrive 30 minutes early with an identity document. Dictionaries and phones are not allowed.
